![]() God gets truly larger as we mature in our faith. When we magnify God, for example, and make God so large and almighty like a Santa Claus in the sky, we actually narrow our image of God. When we get caught up in the minutia and details we can truly become lost souls. Spiritual seeing comes when we widen the view, the “frame”, and see the larger picture. The parables, for instance, make little sense if you have a narrow view of God’s love as conditional.Īs with the puzzle metaphor, when we focus too closely on a piece, we narrow our view. It’s about black and white morality, which certainly doesn’t spring from an encounter with the Jesus in gospels who presents a lot of grey through parables and proverbs. ![]() Many sincere religious people are what Pope Francis calls “new gnostics”, who prize head-knowledge of religion or Jesus than heart-knowledge. The Catholic tradition has always been both-and. “When somebody has an answer for every question, it is a sign that they are not on the right road,” Pope Francis says. Is it human or divine? Is it three or is it one? Is it grace or is it free will?” “To be Catholic is to affirm both sides of a theological question. Habito who engages with both the Christian and Zen traditions, admits that he lives in the tension of trying to reconcile contradictions. Our Christian faith stands on contradictions-in life and in theological questions. But when I finally place the pieces into the entire face, I can see how each piece makes sense. Wait, is that their nose? When I look at the pieces on their own I have a silly Mr Potato Head image in my mind. The person’s eye seems too close to their mouth. We have a jigsaw puzzle of some family photos and there’s always a couple pieces that on their own don’t seem to make sense. ![]() To be a mystic means to hold this contemplative, big-picture stance, where we peer into the wholeness that God sees, the bigger picture where contradictions can make more sense. Do I forgive this friend? Do I trust again? What are the ethical implications of this choice or that? There are contentions we sometimes face in our Examen. When people on either side of any contentious issue cannot love one another, it means they don’t have the big message yet.” They can see that each side has a part of the truth. Rohr says, “ don’t think one side is totally right and the other side is totally wrong. We close up and our Christian identity becomes little more than a flag to wave. When we remain at either of those two levels and think that’s all there is, that that’s “truth”, then we become black and white narrow-minded moralists and excluders. And if we remain in the tribal “our story” and don’t acknowledge the even larger story beyond that, then our own group becomes individualistic (we see this in religion and politics). If we remain in my story and don’t see the larger context, then we’re in danger of remaining in the ego. Richard Rohr teaches about the “ Cosmic Egg“, a metaphor with layers of story: my story, our story, and the story. And our personal lived experience is its own part in an even larger story of our community, our world, and all creation. We can be a contemplative on the scale of a single day, seeing the parts of the whole during our Examen. To have a contemplative stance means holding as one the many facets of the larger story. The spiritual life is to see through God’s perspective, to widen our narrow gaze so we can see a bit more of the whole. Without that context, the piece would have little purpose on its own. Only God sees the entire picture. Now when we’re putting together a section of a puzzle, we don’t need to see the whole picture, but we do need to see the surrounding context for a single puzzle piece to make sense. But it also helps us see the context so the puzzle piece makes even more sense. This prayerful reflection can focus us in on a certain puzzle piece, naming it with specificity and nuance. This is how the Examen gives meaning to events that can at first seem insignificant. I like to think of the Examen like looking at the jigsaw puzzle of our lives (or our day), and examining each piece, placing it within the larger picture. The wisdom of the Examen is that it widens our gaze to see more of the whole-the whole of our lived experience, our context, our world. ![]() If an engineer wants to directly log measurements from their caliper in a digital format, their only option is to hope they have an exposed data link connector and the required cable. The caliper market has largely been able to avoid massive change for the past decade, which translates to limited compatibility with the digitally driven engineering workflow of today. Ultimately, the goal of the SmartCaliper is to improve the workflow of calipers in the modern digital age and push manufacturers to innovate again. Overall, the caliper industry has not pushed to innovate on their technologies, hence having no pressure from competitors. ![]() Our software integration is also extremely user-friendly since it only requires the user to press one button to send the data to the desired textbox in any CAD software. SmartCaliper aims to resolve these existing issues by taking the form factor of an inexpensive upgrade kit that can be installed on any digital caliper. This is because the software that handles the data transfer and its integration with the CAD environment is unintuitive and overall clunky to use, which fails to expedite the 3D modeling process. Despite the fact that engineers had access to high-end Mitutoyo calipers that have the capability of sending data to computers over a serial link, engineers still often do not use the data transferring feature. As a result, when the engineers have to turn those parts into 3D models, they often have to measure each dimension with their calipers and manually type those dimensions into the CAD software. There do exist numerous cases where commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts are purchased without drawings or with inaccurate drawings. Similar to the one off components for space, large production run parts often require dimensions to be verified and fits checked for parts. The second example is from working with tight tolerance parts in a local mechanical engineering company. When the annotations need to be accessed again in the future, the Blender addon is also capable of loading in and editing them. In this case, SmartCalipers would have streamlined this process since it seamlessly transfers caliper data to Blender with our custom addon installed, which enables the user to annotate and record the tolerance information directly into the 3D Wavefront OBJ file itself. This creates a source of error when recording the measurements and leaves no concrete log of the measurements for later use, unless they are digitized from the notebook. What is bizarre about this is the use of paper since it is counter-intuitive to record measurements from a digital caliper onto a piece of paper only to then check with a digital CAD model. ![]() This is then brought to a computer and compared. These measurements are often recorded from the caliper’s screen then written onto a piece of paper, usually a notebook. Consequently, an engineer and I began taking measurements of the part that could be causing the fit to deviate from the tolerance specification in the clean chamber. During the assembly process, there was a case of one of the parts not fitting correctly. First in aerospace, working with satellite hardware, there are a number of precision parts which all require their dimensions to be verified. To demonstrate the application in industry for the SmartCaliper, one of our team members offers two first-hand experiences from an aerospace company and mech engineering company. Additionally, we offer a novel software package that integrates the SmartCaliper to not only analyze the part tolerances against its 3D model, but to also facilitate the computer-aided-designing (CAD) process. The SmartCaliper allows for measurement data to be digitally transferred from the caliper to the computer. ![]() We designed the SmartCaliper after seeing firsthand in the industry the limitations that modern calipers have hence we present a fresh vision for a technology that can reduce error and increase productivity for engineers and hobbyists. The SmartCaliper is a fresh approach to caliper design disrupting a stagnant market. ![]() ![]() While any veins in the body can become varicose, it most commonly occurs in the legs and feet.īecause blood vessels dilate in higher temperatures, you’ll most likely notice more symptoms on warmer days. Note that the second flavor is experimental and we advise against using it for now, as some details might change in the future. If a project-relative path, it will select the workspace that match this path (experimental). If a semver range, it will select the workspace matching the specified version. When this protocol is used Yarn will refuse to resolve to anything else than a local workspace. While Yarn automatically picks workspace resolutions when they match, there are times where you absolutely don't want to risk using a package from the remote registry even if the versions don't match (for example if your project isn't actually meant to be published and you just want to use the workspaces to better compartment your code).įor those use cases, Yarn now supports a new resolution protocol starting from the v2: workspace. This is the pillar of the monorepo approach: rather than using the remote packages from the registry, your project packages will be interconnected and will use the code stored within your repository. If the package manager was to resolve a range that a workspace could satisfy, it will prefer the workspace resolution over the remote resolution if possible. We still provide tools to manage dependencies from multiple workspaces at once, but they need to be explicitly used and offer a better integration (for example yarn add can make suggestions for your new dependencies based on what other workspaces use, but you can override them). Doing this allows us to cleanly decouple projects from one another, since you don't have to merge all their dependencies in one huge unmaintainable list. Said another way, we strictly enforce your workspaces dependencies. Only the dependencies depended upon by a workspace can be accessed. Workspaces have two important properties: This requirement got removed with the 2.0 release in order to help standalone projects to progressively adopt workspaces (for example by listing their documentation website as a separate workspace). Worktrees used to be required to be private (ie list "private": true in their package.json). If they're named, other workspaces will be able to properly cross-reference them. Note that because worktrees are defined with an otherwise regular package.json file, they also are valid workspaces themselves. This doesn't matter in the typical workspace setup because there's usually a single worktree defined in the project-level package.json, but if you try to setup nested workspaces then you must make sure that the nested worktree is defined as a valid workspace of its parent worktree (otherwise Yarn won't find its correct parent folder). They must be connected in some way to the project-level package.json file. For example, if you want all folders within the packages folder to be workspaces, just add packages/* to this array. ![]() They must declare a workspaces field which is expected to be an array of glob patterns that should be used to locate the workspaces that make up the worktree.
